Deya's 2011 charity day took place on 21stOctober and involved some outdoor work for Sale Garden Cottages which is a small complex of sheltered accommodation run by Wokingham Borough.
The jobs the Deya team was tasked with included tidying and edging the lawns, clearing the guttering, repairing some outside storage boxes and painting a hallway. Unfortunately no one from Yell was able to join us this year because of other commitments so there was only a small group involved. However, after a full day and a lot of hard work all but the painting was completed (perhaps that is something for next year).
We received plenty of feedback during the day from residents and it was all positive - they really appreciated that we had taken the time out to help with some of the maintenance of their homes. They were even kind enough to provide us with sandwiches for lunch. The Deya team certainly got a lot out of the day and the Sale Garden Cottages complex is somewhere we would definitely like to visit again on one of our charity days.
Lesley McCambridge, who manages the complex, said it had been a difficult year with the local government cutbacks and the help they received from local businesses like Deya had been invaluable.
