Deliverers

Delivery contractors are recruited by our Team Leaders to deliver books in their local area. On average, a deliverer will deliver about 1000 books.

Deliverers collect the books in their own car or van from a local site, where they receive full training (including watching a training DVD) on how the books should be delivered. The books must normally be delivered within 7 days and the routes are then checked to ensure all customers have received a book in the proper manner.

We encourage our deliverers to put the directory (or other item) through the letter box or to hand it over personally to customers. If this is not possible they are asked to conceal the book safely outside or leave the book with a neighbour.

There is no standard payment as it depends on the number of books to be delivered, the size of the book, whether the delivery is in a town or rural area etc. Normally, however, you may expect to earn approximately £50 to £120.

If you are interested in becoming a delivery contractor, please complete our application form. You must have a car and a telephone.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply to be a delivery contractor?

Click here to fill out our application form. Your details will be added to our database.

Do I need to fill out another application if I see a different distribution advertised?

No. If we have other work in your area we will contact you.

Why did no-one contact me after I had filled out the application form?

When we are carrying out a distribution in your area your details are forwarded to the local organiser (Team Leader). If you are not contacted it means that the local organiser already has sufficient delivery contractors. Your details will remain on our database, so should vacancies occur in the future you may be contacted.

How do I know what distributions you are doing?

Click Jobs > Delivery Dates to see a list of distributions and approximate start dates during the next few months.

Why can you not tell me on your web site exactly how much I will be paid?

The payment for a route depends on many things, such as the size of the directory or catalogue, how many you will be delivering, the type of area (urban or rural), and so on. The local organiser will tell you the exact payment for a route before you decide if you wish to deliver for us.

How old do I have to be to deliver?

You must be 16 or over to deliver. However you will also need a car or van, so unless you are helping someone else you will need to be at least 17 and hold a driving licence.

Do I need a car or van to deliver?

You will be delivering bulky items such as Phone Books, Yellow Pages or catalogues so you must have use of a car or van.

How do I collect the books or catalogues to deliver?

Books are collected from local distribution centres (we often hire places such as sports centres or rugby clubs). We will normally only be there for one morning or afternoon so everything needs collecting during that time.

Do I need any storage space?

Normally you would need to collect 2 car loads from our distribution centre (though it could be more or less). You may therefore need dry, clean and secure storage space for at least one car load.

What training will I receive?

All delivery contractors are required to watch a training DVD, and given distribution instructions to read. The local organiser will also go through what is required and is available during the distribution to offer any help and advice.

I have a job, but can I do delivery work in my spare time?

It depends. If you have a full-time day job then probably no as you would normally be required to collect the books on a week-day, and you may not be able to complete the delivery within 7 days. If you have a part-time job, or work shifts, you may be able to deliver. In this case fill out an application form and discuss your circumstances with the local organiser.

How long do I have to complete my delivery?

Deliveries must normally be completed within 7 days. Deliveries can only be made between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (earlier in winter).

Do you check that my route has been delivered?

All routes are checked to ensure the delivery has been completed correctly before payment is sent out.

When and how will I be paid?

Payments is by cheque and will be posted to you 3 to 5 weeks after completion of the delivery, subject to satisfactory route checking.
