Routecheckers
telephone

Our Routecheckers are responsible for verifying the delivery, and the quality of the delivery, when we are distributing a directory in a particular area. Routecheckers need to have a telephone line with line rental paid to BT, and a Broadband internet connection.

Routecheckers are responsible for telephone checking approximately 25 of our delivery routes on a particular distribution. Most Routechecking is done in the evening from about 5.00 pm until 8.00 pm although occasionally you will be required to make some calls during the day, for example business customers.

Full training is given on how to make the calls but it is very straight forward and involves accessing the telephone numbers via our website portal, asking the customer whether they have received their new directory and, if they have, how it was delivered. All responses are submitted on a web form.

Our Routecheckers have to be available most evenings to do checking during a 14 day period when the directory distribution is taking place. However, it is flexible work and many of our Routecheckers work part-time or have family responsibilities, but wish to earn some extra money.

When making the calls Routecheckers are required to enter a prefix so that calls are routed via our Telecom company. We therefore pay the cost of all calls and they are logged for auditing purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply to be a Routechecker?

Click here to fill out our application form. Your details will be added to our database.

Why did no-one contact me after I had filled out the application form?

It is because we have sufficient Routecheckers at present but please bear in mind that the amount of delivery we do month to month varies and we may require additional Routecheckers later.

What training will I receive?

All new Routecheckers are first contacted by one of our trainers. If the work is suitable the trainer will agree a time when the training takes place. It is done by phone and on your computer, and will last between 45 and 60 minutes. Every aspect of the job will be covered by the trainer, and you will receive a detailed instruction booklet for reference.

What support and help will I have?

All Routecheckers have an 'Area Supervisor' who offers guidance and support. In addition each distribution has a 'Field Manager' and administrative support based at our office in Wokingham whom you are welcome to phone with any queries.

Why do I need to be paying line rental to BT?

If you are not paying line rental to BT you will not be able to use the prefix to route calls via our Telecom company.

I have internet access but how do I know if it's Broadband?

Broadband is 'always on'. Connection to the internet is almost instantaneous and voice calls can be made whilst connected to the internet. The alternative, 'dial up', takes ten to fifteen seconds to connect and voice calls cannot be made at the same time. It is considerably slower than broadband. Most people now have broadband.

I have a job, so can I also be a Routechecker?

It depends. If you have an evening job then probably no. If you have a part-time job, or work shifts, you may be able to be a Routechecker. In this case fill out an application form and discuss your circumstances with us if we contact you.

How much do I get paid?

We pay per connected call made so the more calls you make per hour the better the payment. We are legally obliged to pay at least the national minimum wage. However from our work-rate studies we would expect an average Routechecker to earn more than this. When making the calls Routecheckers are required to enter a prefix so that calls are routed via our Telecoms company. We therefore pay the cost of all calls and they are logged for auditing purposes.

When and how will I be paid?

Payment is by cheque and will be posted to you 3 to 5 weeks after completion of the distribution.
